Information About Honors Program Math Placement:
  • You should complete one of the math placement options even if you will have AP Calculus credit or transfer credit for mathematics.
  • All majors, including University Studies, need to complete only ONE of the math placement options. University Studies majors will need to decide which option best fits with their interests.
  • Both math placement options must be completed or postmarked by Saturday, June 13.
  • Your math placement score will be available to you and your advisor at DelaWorld 101. The results of your exam will help the advisor assist you in fall course selection.
  • If you have any questions about math placement, please do not hesitate to contact the Honors Program at (302) 831-1195.

University Honors Program
Attn: Susan Katz
207 Elliott Hall
Newark, DE 19716

The test must be postmarked by Saturday, June 13. If you have trouble printing the exam, please contact the Honors Program Office as soon as possible at 302-831-1195, and we will mail you a copy. The score and evaluation of this test will be available to you and your Honors advisor during DelaWorld 101 this summer. Freshmen entering in one of the above majors must choose among MATH 241 (Analytic Geometry and Calculus A), MATH 242 (Analytic Geometry and Calculus B), and MATH 242 Honors in the fall semester. This test will determine which course is the appropriate placement for you this fall. Note: On the UD & Me Undergraduate Admitted Student website, a checkmark will not appear next to “Complete Math Placement” under “Steps to Becoming a Blue Hen” for students taking the Calculus Placement Test.

The Calculus Placement Test has two parts:

Part I consists of some questions taken from a MATH 241 final exam and is intended to determine placement in MATH 241 or MATH 242. Please work as many problems as you can on the first part.

Part II contains some questions from Analytic Geometry and Calculus which reflect the spirit of an Honors course. The Honors course in Calculus is much more than simple presentation and acquisition of specific skills. It attempts to provide some exposure to most aspects of the discipline, challenge each student to some degree, and, most importantly, encourage, stimulate, and provoke intellectual growth. If you have an interest in enrolling in the Honors section of MATH 242, you must try some of the problems in Part II.
